The Computer That Didn't Save Computerland | Computerland BC286
#pc #dos #retro I got this machine quite a while ago, fiddled briefly with it and put it away. Now in the follow-up to my original video about ComputerLand and the Business Computer System 88 (BC88), we can finally check out the 'upgrade' ComputerLand offered. Sporting an 8MHz Intel 80286 CPU w/80287 co-pro, EGA graphics and a 30 megabrick.. er.. megabyte, Really, Really Hard Drive, will this thing soar over it's little brother? Was it worth the $1400-2000 upgrade cost?

I Got ANOTHER Intel Chatpad Prototype
Переглядів 21 тис.Місяць тому
Remember that crazy Intel Chatpad prototype I found on eBay? Well, after doing a video on that, a former Intel engineer named Alex introduced himself in the comments, and volunteered some information that he knew about the unit, along with a COMPLETE unit he had kept from the project, that he was willing to loan to me for a video! So here it is.. another Intel Chatpad prototype. Can we get it t...

#1802 #RCA #retrocomputer In August of 1976 Popular Electronics released an article by Joseph Weisbecker introducing the COSMAC ELF, a tiny, very basic "trainer" computer based on the RCA COSMAC 1802 CPU. Some manufacturers took note of the ELF and introduced their own spins on the concept. One of those was Quest Electronics, which brought out a massively improved version called the Super ELF. ...

Can I Fix this 46 Year Old Computer? | Commodore KIM-1 Repair
Переглядів 16 тис.2 місяці тому
I've had this Commodore KIM-1 for over a decade and have never even once seen one sign of life from it. It has been basically a paperweight (and not a very good one at that!) for a long, long time. Who knows when it worked last? But I have persisted over the years, and thanks to the efforts of many others, finally have a way to potentially fix it. Can I pull it off? Or is too far gone? I Bought the Cheapest Altair 8800 Computer on Ebay

I have desired one for years but these days they are highly collectible. That said, sometimes if you're patient, you get lucky. And ...

Its 5 in the morning here so I may have said the same thing before so please bear with me. Personally in this situation I would look into burning roms. Depending on what you have and what you can get is how. If you can get a spare cartridge some how and the rom chips are still available or a modern equivalent is then bob’s your uncle. Option 2 is find the rom chip id possible then fire up kicad and basically recreate the board they have in order to print. Then do the first option. This is obviously a more in depth approach and would be worth looking for a community of others who have the same unit to see if anyone can help. A 3d case can be made too then. Hope this helps

Really the problem is frivolous lawsuits -- and the other problem is that not enough people who _genuinely_ deserve decent compensation get anything other than made fun of. Look up what actually happened to the poor lady whose lawsuit gave us "Caution: Hot" warnings on everything, and you'll see what I mean.

The ZX81 was halted in the US when the TS1000 started production. They were both manufactured on the Timex assembly lines, so it was a simple switch over for them. (The TS1000 even had the same motherboard in it, which said ZX81 on it.)

Big thanks for showing. I have watche the video long time ago the first time. But recently I was given a bare TEC-1D pcb. So I started collecting information, documents and parts for assembling. Instead of a 2716/2732 I have put a XLS2816A EEPROM. It works great. Programming on my 866 works much easier than writeng/erasing EPROMS. The firmware called MONITOR 1B works ok. Have put online a short video showing the embedded greeting message. I would like rather to have the F revision PCB. Someone sold to local residents only. Do not mess with Aussies ;-) They do like crocodile Dundie. Craig Johnes refused sending it to me over the ocean. Stupid . Ebay global shipping allows sending goods to almost any location world wide with no trouble (customs ...) Anyway, he did some good work related with the TEC tough. RIP. Have fun.

Amazing, you brought up the Mark 8. My dad kitted it for the hobbyist market. Indeed, there was a user group called the Hal Singer User Group which was centered around the Mark 8. He was a part of that. My father then went on to the Homebrew Computer Club where he was at the first meeting and worked with Apple back then.

That's awesome.. so by 'kitting', you mean he was providing it with additional parts beyond the board? My dream is to find some original copies of Hal's newsletters to have Grant Runyan's published words there. I know they're available online but something special about the original paper copies. I wonder if your Dad ever ran into Grant in their travels! Did your dad keep his Mark-8?

Fortunately I've not dealt with many sovblock pc clones. The only ones I remember were the ones at school. Even then, starting with the nineties most PCs were foreign imports. And the only pc that needed a floppy to get into the bios setup I ever encountered was an ibm ps/2...

Background "music" is too loud and distracting. Takes away more than adds to the presentation. Just ditch it. It serves no purpose other than to annoy. I don't think I can make it though this video, which would otherwise be excellent.

I clearly remember the early 20MB hard disks in early portable computers. They added a huge premium (~$2000) to an already pricy business tool. I opted for 2 3.5" double densiy floppies. This decission was one I lived with for about a year. Then I purchased the most forward thinking computer of it day, The NEC Ultralite with a "whopping" 2MB solid state "silicon disk." It ran software faster than anything short of a super-expensive 386. It was also a mere 4.4 lbs. I carried it for two years and it still drew double-take whenever I opened it. Fully equipped with an external HD 3.5" floppy (that could format double density disks as high density) is cost me $2500. A bargan in 1989.

Good video! The Tiny BASIC users were the original open source movement. I bet today they like Linux. Also, while I'm here, I enjoy BASIC programming, but I don't have the skills, or time, or space for that matter, to run actual hardware. Naturally, I use emulators. If anyone wants to know about a good, free BASIC emulator, PC-Basic emulates GW-Basic and will make files in actually usable formats. You know, .txt, .csv, whatever you want. I'm not affiliated with that project at all. I just thought the other BASIC hobbyists might be interested.
